A strong earthquake hit of Indonesia main island of java monday, prompting autorities to briefly isue a tsunami warning and sending a thousands of residents fleeing their homes in panic.
There were no immediate reports on injuries or damage from 6.7-magnitude quake, wich struck shorty after 3 a.m. monday ( 2000 GMT, 4 P.m EDT )
The US geological survey said he temblor was centered 318 kilometer ( nearly 200 miles ) of southern Java, just 24 kilometers beneath the ocean floor.
